15mm of Fame ...

Didn't Andy Warhol once say that everyone would be famous for 15 minutes...?
Well today I achieved 15 millimetres of fame instead, or thereabouts....
Today was the day, my moment of fame would arrive via The Mail on Sunday You magazine..and after waiting weeks of excited anticipation for my Christmas cards to be featured in the National Press.. I eagerly sought the blaze of publicity.. with trembling fingers I flicked impatiently through the glossy pages. Well if you have a magnifying glass.. nay.. a telescope... you might just be lucky enough to glimpse the blurry little snowman on page 96...even with my super strength reading glasses I had to squint.. well there is a saying... be thankful for small snowmen!

I have had a wonderful weekend ... despite feeling a bit grotty with cold and achy after my garden marathon..on Friday.
Oh quick aside.. thank you for all your lovely kind comments about my garden.. and to those of you who wondered..no not all the photos were taken that day.. the flowers were from the summer.. it just looked better than a blank canvas as it stands in its winter dress.

Yesterday I had the most wonderful deliveries in the post from a dear friend Carol at Katherine's Dream (still no links I am afraid but soon my friends soon..) a beautiful red and white gingham heart filled with lavender (my favourite).. this heart will be revealed in a post I am doing later this week.. Thank you Carol.. it was so very sweet of you to send me this gift.. one from the heart! Big hug to you..xx

I also received my Christmas present.. bought by me.. for me! I couldn't resist this lovely tea cosy that I discovered by Samantha Stas at ..www.notonthehighstreet.com. Samantha has some charming and cheery products on her web page and I love the colours and use of fabrics... I am sure you will agree... just my cup of tea! Never has my tea pot been so well dressed! Check out her page and see what I mean..

Yesterday we beetled off to Tisbury in deepest darkest Wiltshire..to Compton Marbling.. a wonderful emporium of crafts and antiques .. in fact all manner of wonderful stalls for the Christmas Craft Fayre were held in a quadrangle of stone barns.. There was a lovely atmosphere and a real bustle of shoppers who had come far and wide to this regular event.
I was so smitten with the place that I hope to take a stall there next year.. The name Compton Marbling has been known to me for years as I once worked at a fine stationers in Bath called Papyrus and they stocked fabulous hand-made papers and marbled papers from this local industry..
I was so excited and in headless chicken mode that I forgot to take any photos of the place.. oh silly me!!!!
After spending the modest sum of £3.50 on a Shaker style tin angel .. we then scuttled off to the local inn for a hearty lunch of roast beef and horseradish sandwiches. Log fires, squashy battered leather sofas and candlelight..make this inn a wonderful winter retreat..
A perfect weekend.. How was yours?

You made me laugh with your 15 mm of fame! Your garden looks lovely by the way. Tisbury looks like a wonderful old town ... and I'm impressed that didn't buy much!!

That tea cozy is so adorable! What a wonderful treasure! The stone building is very pretty, too. We don't have many stone buildings on the Cape, aside from an occasional tower or two. There are some lovely stone farm buildings and homes elsewhere in Massachusetts though, and whenever I see them I immediately think of England! =)

Do you know we dont seem to have any of these lovely Xmas type fairs around here - please correct me anyone if I am wrong - I am not in a Christmassy mood at all and today sat on the stairs venting my anger with world in general (sols, buyers and the non communication of the whole b***** thing) then I cried and told alan to throw out a box of cassettes and cd's that the cat had been sick on - yes honestly. He did as he was bid and now I have to go and get them out of the bin bag he used as I didnt mean it. He took me to the local garden centre at 3pm as love to find lovely htins in the xmas bit ti use all year round but it did nothing for me - I am simply in limbo at the moment. You garden looks lovely - I like seperate rooms.

Hi Michele,
I saw your card in the You magazine today and was most impressed. Have to start somewhere and that's as good a start as any! How could you go to a huge antiques and craft fair and only buy 1 thing? Love the tea cosy too.
have a good week,
Lucy

Michele you almost get me in stitches when I read your posts. I didn't get my grubby little mitts on the You magazine until John got home from work late afternoon, I snatched the bundle of magazines from him as soon as he walked through the door, tore open the plastic wrapper and quickly thumbed through the pages, I must confess if I had blinked I would have missed your 15mm of fame, but any publicity is good publicity, they couldn't have got your picture closer to the fold on the page if they tried? All joking apart though I hope it brings you new clientele. Lovely little hat for your teapot, do you use one, or are you lazy like me and just usually shove a bag in a mug, the last time I used a pot I dropped the lid! My weekend was nowhere near as good as yours, I wish I lived near you, I would have loved to have gone to the quadrangle, that sort of excursion is just up my street, although I mustn't grumble I have got Arundel nearby which is a plethora of similar little Aladdin's caves, sounds like your great day was rounded off with a great sandwich too, you've, heard of feed a cold and starve a fever, I hope you feel less coldy soon. x

You have the sweetest personality and make me laugh just about every time I read your cute blog.
You also have some wonderful stone buildings there that we just don't have out here in West Texas.
Congratulations of the publishing of your card...no matter how small it was.
The tea cosy is precious..I can see why you like it so much.

Hey C&C, I found compton marbling not necessarily all I hoped. Too much posh - not enough nice. But looooooove the Beckford!

Hi Michele

Sorry you're full of the lurgy. So is Niki, and I'm wondering whether to desert Fiona tomorrow and wait until her fair at Bradford on Avon next week as Somerset has such appalling weather tonight and my plan was to get up and set off early.

Next time you go to Tisbury do, please, do a detour and visit Dairy House Antiques at Semley. It's only a few miles up the road!
