She Sells Sea Shells .....

There are various blogs forming in my mind and like a class full of eager children, they all have their hands up saying.."choose me, choose me".. well the blog I shall choose today will be in tribute to my beautiful mother..
She has been much on my mind these last few days...

I had a charmed childhood.. growing up in small Berkshire village in a happy home stuffed full of antiques and obect d'art from my mother's home in Belgium and her many years of collecting.. and dealing in antiques for 30 years..she had a wonderful eye for home interiors and married beautiful objects and furnishings with ease and flair.. As a child I wasn't really conscious nor appreciated what a wonderful environment I lived in and I have vivid memories of being dragged around antique shops on our family holidays to Cornwall.. I was usually left in the car with my brother quietly smouldering at the injustice of being taken on yet another antiques hunt!
This upbringing made and impression on me and I have grown up to admire and appreciate good craftsmanship and antiques of a decorative nature.. I love the arts and crafts movement, french rustic style, Shaker folk art, vintage toys and whatever whim and fancy takes centre stage..
My mother gave me a Victorian shell frame many years ago that I cherish and I now have a small collection that are displayed in the bathroom.. where else!

Thanks MumX

Michele, just popped in to your blog and I can't believe you have a photo of you as a baby with your lovely mum, today on my blog I have put baby pictures of my brother and I, the fact that we think so alike is beginning to scare me! I just love the Arts & Craft movement and if I was very rich I would buy many pieces, same goes for original Shaker and you already know that I love childhood nostalgia! I enjoyed reading your memories of family times with your mum, our mum's were very special. Louise x

Your mum sounds wonderful. I love your shell frame collection, it reminds me of some my grandma has. She has a huge shell collection as well, I used to spend hours peering at it.

Hi Michelle, I've found your blog from your comment on mine. Thank you for your kind words. You're in my Favourites list now, and you'll be in my links too when I get around to doing them. I am enjoying the blogging already. I love those shell frames, I have some shell boxes but have never come across frames like that - a delightful little collection.
