Good Intentions...

Being a new year and as is the custom amongst so many of us to change our lives for the better with the coming year.. I am no exception to this annual tradition and have had many thoughts rattling around in my rather depleted mind these last few days..
I have learnt from several of you of your intentions to slow down and take life at a gentler pace and I would like to put my hand up and join you in this quest..
I fear that we (I especially) try to cram too much into our daily lives and often feel a failure by the end of the day.. by not achieving our tick list of chores or tasks..
So it is one of my many new year resolutions to slow down and take stock of what I 'do' achieve rather than what I 'don't '.

So here we are... another year... another list..
If I only achieve one this year.. it will be something to celebrate.

1. Stop wasting time... it is so precious and I let days drift by without any consequence.. seize the day !

2. Don't take life too seriously... learn to smile more and laugh at myself rather than berate myself for my mistakes.

3. Don't become a slave to my blog... This one is tricky! My blog has given me a purpose and makes my day eventful.
It has brought me more friends and mutual support that I could ever have dreamt of.... BUT.. it should be an occasion to
share the jewels of my life and not all the bric a brac.

4. Don't let a bad hair day become a mid-life crisis.

5. Don't listen to the devil in the biscuit tin.

6. Learn some more Italian.

7. Stop chasing dust.. and let the house clean itself ??????? ( I am the original neurotic housewife)

8. Avoid looking in the mirror from the waist down and neck up.

9. Stop worrying so much. Easier said than done.

10. Yes... very predictable.. lose weight.. My middle age spread is spreading too far and wide !

And last but by no means least...live by the wise words of Bonnie Prudden...

" You can't turn back the clock. But you can wind it up again."

What a great post! My resolution is not to write any more lists of resolutions, I can't bear that feeling of failure so early on in the year! Having said that I do have a couple of secret resolutions that are locked away in my brain and will remain there while I try to keep them!

It's nice seeing your bric brac!

Hi Michele, I can relate to your resolutions, it's so easy to slip into bad habits and stay there. I am so guilty of faffing about and time wasting especially. I think I'll just resolve to try harder this year, that just about covers everything!
have a good week,

Oh dear, I can relate to everything you have said, apart from learning Italian that is, although I would love to swat up on French again, and German. I would love to speak Spanish too, my grandad speaks fluently as he has lived in the mountains of Mallorca for half of his life. I don't think it is the case of slowing down, I just think that we need to speed up on the things we want to do. I spend far too much time playing the neurotic housewife as well, but I must say since I started this blog, I have allowed the dust to settle, although I do still keep tidy appearances throughout the home, purely because my brain doesn't function around clutter! I can see that you have done what I have done, and taken stock of life, yes we can make changes to the way we go about our daily business, but we cannot change ourselves, we have to learn to accept who we are, and just be ourselves, I know that is easier said than done. That is what I like about you Michele, you are open and honest and funny with it! I do hope you manage to keep up with the blog to some degree, I really enjoy reading your posts, not that I am putting any pressure on you that is! x

Well Michele, I loved those resolutions, they made me smile big time, I felt like I could relate to all of them ...how do those demons get in the biscuit tin? little beggars.
Hoping you are having a chilled and demonless week.

Don't just give us your jewels - it's the bric a brac that makes blogs interesting - otherwise they make me depressed that other people have a perfect life! Good luck with the list - mine is growing daily, but I figure the more resolutions I have, the more likely I am to keep at least one of them!

You read my mind! I'm weak though and I'm sure I'll be succumbing to to the biscuit tin demons at least once a week, maybe everyday? I'm just going for trying a bit harder and concetrating on enjoying the day. As my mun often says to my perfectionist and pretty stressed out sister, "Good enough is the new perfect!" Mum's are always right.
And more bric a brac I saw, there'll definitely be plenty on my blog this year!

Hi Michele, my only resolution this year is to laugh at myself at least once a day. Shouldn't be too hard to keep this resolution then!
I think your bric a brac are little treasures... Chat soon, Liz

Those are all wonderful resolutions. I think I will add them to my list of daily resolutions. I know I can't keep to them for a year, but I can keep to them daily. I also think everyone who blogs as much as our little group does completely understands the desire to not be a slave to it, but man is it fun! It seems that everyone has decided to take a bit of a break from blogging the last week. Its kind of sad. No new posts to read. :( I guess it just helps us appreciate them all that much more when someone does post something new.

Best of luck with your resolutions!

Michelle

Oh I absolutely love that last quote. Totally brilliant. I'm going to be doing some serious winding up again in the coming weeks and months. But no set resolutions for me. I'm just no good at keeping them!

Love that last quote--brilliant! I've been creating guidelines for the year, and am with you on a lot of these good points. The middle-age spread is starting to scare me. But your bric a bra...don't stop, chat away--you are a gem! Happy week and road to making you New Year dreams come true ((HUGS))

Nice post, I'm with you on most of these apart from the Italian. I'd love to join in with the slowing down movement but that's not an option for a long time yet....however I am very relaxed about housework these days, it's really not the end of the world if there's dust around. And I do waste time sometimes, I could actually spend more time being creative and that would make me feel good so it's worth trying for.
BTW I like reading about the bric-a-brac of your life, keeps it real and you'll make us feel inadequate if you only write about the jewels! I write my blog when I feel like it and have something to say, reading blogs are like catching up with your friends and although you don't hear from your friends day in day out it's always lovely to get together!

I can relate to nearly all of these. My mother is always quoting 'Seize the Day' - I think it's 'Carpe Diem' and it's a very good maxim to live by. Sometimes I can't believe where a whole day can have gone and I seem to have achieved very little.
