A walk on the wild side....

Don't you just love it when the sun shines..The warmth inspires strong feelings of joie de vivre..

On Sunday.. the sun shone (hurrah) and taking young son by the hand and gently coaxing him outside from the gloom of his bedroom cave into the dazzling daylight.. we set off en famille to
one of our favourite hill tops just outside the city limits..

Kelston Roundhill

There were the usual bleats of despair from my offspring about the length of the walk, the time it would take.. but lo and behold.. within a few minutes of stepping out into the green and blue yonder.. my son started to leap and prance about like a Gazelle on his summer vacation.
The path to our destination was cloaked in a froth of Hawthorn blossom and Cow Parsley.

From afar, the landscape looked as if it had been liberally iced with sugar frosting..

The wind in our hair and a spring in our step we took the familiar route to this very special corner of our fair and green land..Let's face it .. much as we loathe rain.. the benefits of it are manifold.. green green fields for one..

I would love to have heard their conversation...maybe it went like this..
"No I am Buttercup.. you're Daisy"..

Eventually we climbed the summit and gazed out at the beautiful landscape that stretched to the city of Bristol and beyond to the hills of south Wales..One member of the family really got into the spirit of the occasion and took part in a spot of hill rolling.. an ancient custom round these parts !!??
After a very enjoyable jaunt it was ..'last one home's a sissy' and the race to get back to a welcome plate of Sunday lunch and a few sneaky ZZZzzzz's on the sofa...A perfect Sunday in the sun..

Hi - I know Kelston well, although we call it Kelston Round Tump. I love spotting it on the horizon when I'm on the way back to visit my family in Bristol, and we can see it really clearly from where my Mum lives on the outskirts of Bristol.

You can't beat the English countryside in my opinion. Then back home for a sunday lunch. That's my kind of day. Pity there's no rolling hills where I am!

Sounds just like our son, sometimes we have to literally drag him screaming from the house to get him out but once we're there he loves it!
Looks a fab walk, great to be out in the sun again isn't it.

What a great walk with wonderful views, thankyou for sharing it with us. I like that last photo of those two important men in your life, there's something about photos of the backs of people that is so thought provoking. I think the cows were telling you to 'blog off'!!

Michele, I was expecting to hear Lou Reed! You certainly have beautiful countryside surrounding the wonderful city of Bath. Sometimes John has to drag me away from the PC for a bike ride, although once peddling I always end up really enjoy myself. Did you have a Sunday roast, I remember as kids we used to have one every week and then fall asleep after lunch without fail. x

Ok, I am totally in LOVE with England and the beauty that is around every green turn. Awe struck - yup I am!!! I am suddenly singing "The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Music." ...although I cannot carry a tune in a bucket and would shame poor Julie Andrews.

LOL about the rolling down the hills. Oh boy, that brought back a childhood memory!!

Fun day!!!!!

Michèle, this was a wonderful cyber visit to your countryside. I enjoyed every minute of it.
You would like my part of the world, the NW corner of the state of Oregon. Big rivers, waterfalls, snowy peaks in the distance [where they belong, as far as i am concerned;)] and masses of lovely gardens big and small. As you pointed out, all that rain is a true gift even though we, too, grumble about it.
