Every picture tells a story ...

I recently discovered an old negative, not seen for many years.. buried in a drawer of papers. Thanks to my dear friend Emma, it finally came to life as a photo as she cleverly scanned it with some techy wizadry.. et voila.. a flood of memories were re-awakened.
The year was 1961.. and I was three years old..sitting on my mother's lap in our super deluxe Vauxhall Cresta. I can still remember the smell of the leather seats of the car, the cardboard sandwiches which were a traditional lunch on journeys from Berkshire to Cornwall. We always stopped on Dartmoor to stretch our legs and re-charge our batteries with our picnic lunch.. and feed the wild Dartmoor ponies my uneaten crusts...tut tut! It used to take 8 hours door to door.. truly an epic voyage.
If I had to save one belonging from a burning house.. it would be this photo.

I am still struggling to come up to full steam.. but hope to be back in the blogging community with a spring in my step soon..

I can't believe that adorable photo has survived! I love the way it is through the window, like it is a window in to that memory. Just gorgeous!
I think it deserves being printed off and put in its own vintage frame and displayed somewhere.

What a lovely photograph. I remember those eight hour journeys really well, we always used to go overnight and would get to Dartmoor as the sun was coming up. Now we can do it in around 4 hours but it does not hold the magic of falling asleep in the back of the car and waking up on holiday.

Wow - what a fantastic find. Your mother looks very glamorous. I know what you mean about the smell of leather seats. My dad had an old Daimler which used to overheat on every long journey. It was his pride and joy though!

Hi Michele

What a lovely photo, I really like how it captures a time...
You look so sweet in that photo, very cute cute hairstyle.

I laughed about the sandwiches as that is one of my memories too. When we used to come over to UK for holidays, we would stay for a couple of weeks in Surrey with my Grandparents and then would drive up to Scotland for a holiday. The journey up was full of "cardboard" sandwiches, I also remember how unfriendly pubs were. Fancy not letting children eat inside. My sister and I were not impressed with British food or pubs...Thank goodness, things have improved greatly since the 60's & 70's!

Wonderful things photos, they take you right back...

Warm wishes
