The day after the day after....

My birthday was a perfect day of understated fun and a great deal of happiness and just a slight indulgence of cake..!!
Other than the gorgeous gifts that I shared with you on my Birthday the greatest gift of all.. truly.. was from my friends.. virtual and real and those in-between... I hope that makes sense..?
I received so much love and goodwill from many of you and that really made my day so special.. so thank you, thank you for your company and kindness....
For all my reservations and sheer anxiety about reaching my heady age... I am loving it up here!!
I have been in a kind of gentle euphoria for the last three days.. a peace has descended and I feel much at ease with the world.. I think this excellent weather has had something to do with it, a few glasses of the bubbly kind too.. you could say that 'My cup brimmeth over!'
Life got even better this morning on a very belated trip to my local flea market.. Not having visited for some weeks due to the wash out summer we have had and the dwindling pennies in my purse.. I took myself off with birthday cash burning a hole in my pocket and mingled amongst the Saturday shoppers.. to find some real treasures.. to me at least. This is the kind of thing that lights up my tree...

A darling little 1950's (?) card game in it's box and in mint condition.. I just adore the graphics of this era..

I am not sure whether I can bear to part with this so it will probably stay in the Cowboys & Custard museum.. a.k.a My home!
Tonight, Mr Custard is cooking up a surprise supper to celebrate my birthday with some good friends.. As I am banished from the kitchen... all I know is that it is most certainly without meat as our friends are both vegetarian. As Mr C is a devout caveman carnivore.. this is no mean feat and a great sacrifice! I will let you know how it goes... I think he had delusions of greatness after watching Masterchef for the last few weeks..

I am ravenous and will eat cake if needs be!

Before I slip away to be wined and dined.. I just thought I would let you know that my web-site is now on it's way to becoming a reality... still a long way off from the finished article but at least I have a web address .. So Cowboys & Custard finally comes of age ! Well.. almost!

I'm fond of those cards too. I don't find a lot of that era over here that is in mint condition. As children here used to give their toys to other younger children. We live in this small country with millions and not everybody has an attick (which in my case is another word for curse). Your website is looking swell allready, makes me want to see more! Hope you have a great meal, but every meal is great in good company. Have a nice weekend!

Hi Michele, I just love those cards - I can't resist buying playing cards I have tons yet can only play a few games although Pete has bought me a huge book of diferent card games- its size is putting me off bit though! It would take an age to get through it. I have a boy in my form who collects cards from all over the world - he is a magician and I know when I say the name David Nixon in the making you will know who I mean. My other half loves being fifty he says its the new 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never did quite understand why the kind offer to let a whole nation eat cake caused so much fuss. Jolly good plan I say!
Enjoy your meal. Lucky you! My man does an excellent vegetarian dish - 'Beans on toast'! His carnivore speciality is 'Ham Sandwich'. HA! t.x

Michele
A little birdie told me it was your birthday. Poor birdie, he was very tired and a few days late after that flight across the pond.
Happy Birthday and what an amazing year you've had for your business. Well done! I have loved reading about it from afar.

I am glad to hear you have a couple of euphoric days. The little game is lovely I could not part with it! We had a brain wave last week and Alan put up two long shelves in the conservatory and I was able to release more of my 'tat' as the kids call it and display it on the shelves. We were supposed to start on our room this weekend - carpets booked for 2/10 to make us get on with it! but had a disasterous time trying to fit some shelves into alcoves - why couldnt builders make straight alcoves - we ended up puttin everything away and shutting the door! We will review the situation tonight! That was a cake-fest photo wasnt it??

Congratulations on your up and coming website! And I LOVE how you refer to your home as your museum! =) Is that your madeleine pan in the first photo? Hubby gives me all these fun French pans from his cookshop to use at home, but I am a chicken when it comes to trying any French baking! So I guess my French bakeware has become part of my own museum! lol

So glad that you had a lovely birthday. Hope Mr Custard came up trumps with his vegetarian meal. What lovely 50's cards to spend your birthday pennies on..you must keep them.
Enjoy Frome this week-end. Probably a good move as last week-end was Carnival day so many of the road closed.
